(More customer reviews)I purchased this plush from e-Bay several days ago and while I like any version of this Madagascar character - as I think the entire movie should have been based around this fellow - I think there are some things worth mentioning about the price listed here and the product itself.
First of all, DO NOT BUY THIS TOY FROM AMAZON AT $30. You will be getting ripped off.
The prices for toys like this are usually always higher here because it isn't a very popular item on Amazon and sellers may assume people will accept shelling out more money for a toy due to its scarcity - very much a "take it or leave it" situation.
I got this exact toy on eBay for $12.99 plus $2.99 shipping from a good seller.
That doesn't mean everyone will be able to purchase this exact item for that price but on average eBay sellers have to list items at competetive prices as there may be more than a few different people offering uncommen items such as this for sale (or to bid on).
E-bay items are usually offered for lower prices (on average, it's by no means a guarantee) because of the greater available supply of any given item.
I also purchased the other KING JULIEN & MORT TALKING PLUSH (Mort is attached and peeking out from behind King Julien's back, approx. 15" tall) advertised for sale on Amazon at nearly $60.00, for $29.99 on e-Bay.
Now on to this little toy's actual product review...
The main body material seems durable although the felt-like material used as his "crown" while relatively sturdy may tear over time. The eyes are embroidered patches so quite a nice touch and the other plush Julien features are consistent to the movie Julien and well-made. The legs are sewn on and don't offer any support and are just kind of floppy.
However my main issues were with this toy's body likeness being so different to that of the movie character and a minor voice chip issue.
The pictures of this item on e-Bay were taken from above and made it difficult for me to tell the height at the time I purchased it.
This is approximately a 4" round (not including his crown) King Julien plush ball head with roughly 2" long arms and legs and a headdress - making him roughly 7 1/2" overall. And he also has a pointy nose.
The effect of this design makes him look less like the character from Madagascar and more like a rat - like something out of Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille.
I realize this toy was intentionally made not to look like the character's body in the movie but I wanted to mention it in case someone specifically wanted a full-body Julien plush.
The voice sounds exactly like that of the character in the movie and is clear except I had to listen to the phrases several times to be sure of what he was saying, but maybe that's just me.
The voice chip in this toy (mine, at least) is also a little on the sensitive side.
It's been sitting next to my keyboard and went off once while I was typing a little too hard.
You really only have to lightly tap his head to activate his voice.
These are the 4 phrases he says, to the best of my knowledge:
1. "I am royalty! I cannot be told exactly what to do!"
2. "My booty senses nearby movin' and groovin'.
3. "The bossing-ness is what I do."
4. "I really must complement my brain."
It's a nice little toy but not worth the $30 it's listed at here.
I would either try to find this on e-Bay for a reasonable price or spend a bit more and go for the better, full-size King Julien plush with little Mort peeking from behind his back.
