Power Rangers Operation Overdrive Mega Mission Helmet Review

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive Mega Mission Helmet
Average Reviews:

Sigh, I finally got this thing downloading missions but it was a bit of a feat. This review is really designed to help out anyone else under pressure to get the latest missions downloaded.
As an IS operations manager for an F100 company with 5 boys and around five PC's on our home network , i'm used to being the family support guy.
I'm not used to becoming so frustrated that I feel like kicking things.
Here is what you need to do to avoid frustration:
1.Find the software:
Took a while to find this , head first to this website http://www.bandai.com/powerrangers/
There you can find the application "2.0" which you can download and install.
2.Install the software:
Please make sure to install it under the profile that will use it.
I first installed it under my profile and then logged in as my 5 year old. Running the application that way will prompt a series of code errors.
3. Get the right driver:
Once you have it installed connect the helmet.
You may get prompted to allow the computer to search for a driver online.
This will fail. You need to choose those dialogs that will allow you to search manually.
If you accepted defaults you will find your driver here :
C:\Program Files\Power Ranger\Driver4. Getting Missions.
The rest is pretty intuitive.
Launch the application and choose which mission you want and download away.
The toy is fun and it seems durable.
The online component really really needed to have been designed a bit better. Additionally it might have been better to allow for more than one mission to have been uploaded to the helmet at a time. While I have typed this review Mr. 5 year old has been back looking for more missions twice.
I'm now off to figure out his XO laptop. I swear to goodness next Christmas every toy will be made of wood. It was good enough for me punks !

Attention Red Ranger, are you ready for your mission? The Power Rangers Operation Overdrive Mega Mission Helmet is loaded with sounds and lights as you go to battle against the forces of evil. Recommended for children ages 4 and up, this replica Power Rangers helmet even lets you download missions from your computer at home. Sleek Helmet Design There's no sense going into battle unprotected. Just like the helmets on the Power Rangers television show, this helmet is contoured with rounded edges to fit the shape of your head. The helmet comes in two pieces -- a mask and a back head plate -- that snap together into place. While this toy should not be considered a safety protective design, it is lined with foam padding in case of bumps and include a head guide with adjustable strap to keep the helmet from rattling around.Made with chrome red plastic, the helmet design integrates a tinted visor and mouth guard with slits for easy breathing. Above the visor the mask features a silver chrome band with mega-action LED lights that flash red, yellow, and green along with sound effects. Loaded With Sound Effects Power Rangers control the sound effects with the two buttons on the top of the helmet. Button 1 activates quick sayings and battle sounds to get you pumped for your mission, and button 2 plays the top secret mission messages. "The fate of the world lies in your hands," one mission reads, "So get here -- fast!" You can set the volume to "high," "medium," or "low." The on/off dial also has a "try me" setting that only plays the mission messages as long as the button is held down. In the "on" setting, the button only needs to be pressed once to play the entire message and is stopped with another push. Download More Missions Using the included USB cord, which plugs into the top of the helmet, you can download over 20 new and exciting missions from Bandai's Power Ranger Operation Overdrive Web site. The downloading software program is not included with the toy, but can be downloaded using a computer with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. (Unfortunately, this program is not compatible with Mac computers.) Snap-on accessories that attach to the side of this Red Ranger helmet are sold separately. What's in the Box Helmet, USB cord, and head guide with adjustable strap.

WowWee Chimpanzee Alive Animatronic Life Like Chimp Robot Monkey with Remote Review

WowWee Chimpanzee Alive Animatronic Life Like Chimp Robot Monkey with Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was originally a SharperImage exclusive, but now wow wee is marketing it to other retailers. I expect Spencer Gifts to carry it soon. The Chimp is now available at SharperImage, Amazon and a few others.
The big deal here is the current price of 50 dollars shipped. Sharper Image ran a promotion at that price instead of the original price of 150 dollars and they sold out. Now, Amazon follows suit at 50 dollars and that it is a heck of a value for this particular item.
For starters, the skin and hair is of very high quality. I know this because I have visited a few special effects studios and know the difference between good and halloween mask quality. The hair is incredible. Set in movie studio style with unrecognizable pattern and great feel. The coloration on this bust is extremely life-like as well. The teeth are another story. Very nicely detailed.
This bust has electronics that enable lots of emotions that include some that appear incredibly lifelike. Yes, the motors are noisy, but this is the case with almost any animatronic device. In movie studios the motor sounds are dubbed over, but in real life, they don't exactly complete the illusion. At a distance or with background music or chatter it is not a big deal. If all this bust did were move and make noise with the remote it would be fine. However, wow wee included touch sensors, head tracking, sound sensors, and a remote. Just for comparison, Spencer Gifts sells animatronic stuff at Halloween for 50-150 that are not near this quality.
I imagine lots of people setting up hidden cameras to capture the reactions of people to this bust. You could set it on top of a big box with another smaller box over the head to appear the chimp is wrapped up for Christmas. Set it to 'guard' mode (head will scream and move at any sign of movement). Someone lifts up the top box, and gets the surprise of their life.
To me, it is simply amazing that this level of animatronic prop can be offered at the consumer level, much less at this price.

The Alive Chimpanzee combines Hollywood special effects with advanced robotics technology in the most realistic simian this side of the jungle. He's a life size, highly detailed realistic bust. Animatronics enable him to duplicate the signature sounds and movements of a real chimp. His skin and hair, which were developed specifically for the Chimp, are amazingly life-like. His head, eyes, mouth, upper lip, eye lids and eye brows move just like his counterparts in the wild. And, his vocalizations are startlingly real. He's multi-sensory, highly communicative and interactive. An infrared vision system allows him to detect movement and track objects, and touch sensors in his chin, head and ears react to contact. Alive Chimpanzee responds to sharp sounds with his stereoscopic sound sensors. The nature of the Chimp's response to these stimuli will depend upon the mood that he's in - curious, fearful, happy or angry. Watch out if he's angry - he becomes a very frightening and very loud chimpanzee. He comes programmed with five modes: Direct control, programming, guard, demo and "Alive" mode. In the "Alive" mode, the Chimpanzee will interact autonomously with his environment, carefully watching, listening and responding to what is going on around him. The Alive Chimpanzee comes complete with an ergonomically designed controller. Requires one "9V" battery and 4 "D" batteries (not included). AC adapter not included. Measures 13" tall.

Toy Story 3 Rex the Roaring Dinosaur Review

Toy Story 3 Rex the Roaring Dinosaur
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These new, "film accurate" Toy Story toys from Thinkway are really neat! They are given a bit too much credit for being totally accurate, even from John Lasseter himself, but there's no doubt that they're the most accurate ones ever to hit the market thanks to being modeled from the actual PIXAR computer data. Still, each one has an issue or two that keeps them from being wholly accurate, the beautifully designed film-based packaging has the issue of requiring the Toy Story logo quite visibly in every case, and some of them, especially Buzz Lightyear, can have quite a few production flaws when you get them out of the package (as with all toys, paint flaws are a common issue, and just like with my original Buzz, you can encounter unwanted artifacts imbedded in areas like his clear plastic helmet). However, for this review I'm going to discuss Rex, the friendly dinosaur.
As in the film, the toy of Rex seems to be voiced by actor Wallace Shawn (you know, the hilarious bald guy from Princess Bride). And, yes, I said voiced, even though a film accurate Rex wouldn't actually talk, would it? I mean, not made as a talking toy, anyway. Well, though these Certificate of Authenticity, Toy Story Collection toys are being pushed to us collectors and hardcore Disney/PIXAR/Toy Story fans, they are still being made with kids in mind too, and high price tags (very high, really, and Rex is one of the doozies), and that's why you have some inconsistencies like interactive electronics. Of course, something like that is fun and forgivable. It's great to have a physically accurate Rex that can "come alive" and speak in his real voice. I have no problem with that. However, there's one issue that does bother me, and that's the fact that Rex's jaw does not move. It DOES in the film. So, the whole perfectly accurate thing is baloney. Don't get me wrong, these toys are beautiful, wonderful, I love them, but they're not 100% accurate. Thankfully, the sculpt is there to give the appearance, somewhat, that the jaw moves. Visually, Rex really does look perfect, with a beautiful paint job (though, one reason I prefer to buy toys in person is the paint job issue; I did pick through 3 or 4 of these, and I'm glad I was able to), and that's what really matters to me, as I mainly want them for display. So, again, I give my full two thumbs up to this Rex toy, just like to point out that perfect it is not, due to that whole jaw issue.
As for his electronic abilities, Rex is advertised to say several phrases, respond to your voice and volume level, and move his head and arms. He does move very well and speaks very loudly and clearly, saying a handful of cute, funny, and sometimes slightly insecure phrases. Rex comes with his tail unattached, as the on/off/try me switch is located at the base that his tail attaches to. Off, as I would guess, conserves the batteries better than the "sleep" mode Rex goes into when he senses he is not being played with, and the tail nicely hides these switches. Twisting the tail is what gets him to speak on demand, and this always works, though it took me a while to get Rex to respond to sound. This could be an issue of battery energy loss, since he was in the store with that try me button getting hit by kids a lot, I'm sure, though he sounds so loud and everything that he doesn't seem like he has low batteries. Something else I've encountered is that sometimes Rex will, while switched to Play mode, still act more like he's in Try Me mode, saying only a few phrases and responding even less than usual. Again, it could be a battery power issue, but I have found that switching him off and waiting a few minutes to switch him back to play can remedy this issue as well as the other, and I picked up that tip from another Rex owner. Last time I tried him out, though I didn't talk to Rex myself, he finally was responding in perfect form to Buzz and Woody. Get the three together and they won't shut up, ha!
Rex comes in another great Toy Story Collection package designed to look like he's a non-film based toy dinosaur, as he might have been packaged if sitting on a shelf in Al's Toy Barn; but, like I said about all these great Toy Story Collection toys, "Toy Story" is still clearly printed on the package somewhere very visible, which to me ruins the effect and makes the packaging not worth saving at all. As for posability, Rex's legs can be positioned as you like. You can move his arms and head too, but I wouldn't encourage this. Better purchased for the gentle Toy Story fan. He can stand well since he uses his tail too. Can't get him to stand with tail in the air because of the weight distribution, but he looks fine with it down.
Over all, Rex is a flippin' AWESOME toy, especially for the collector who loves the Toy Story films. He has a few issues, but he is still incredible and deserving of 5 stars. His only accessory is the certificate of authenticity, and if you are shopping for this Rex, be sure to make sure the C.O.A. is mentioned on the box, or else you are getting one of the less accurate versions. It's a little confusing out there right now with these toys, as some of the less accurate versions come pretty close. In person, I have only seen the C.O.A. Rex at the Disney Store, which is where I bought mine, but I HAVE seen a smaller, non-accurate version at Toys R Us, and the less aware buyer could easily go home with that one if he or she is not being watchful. As for the other toys currently available in the first wave of this line, there is Buzz, Woody, R/C, the Alien 3-pack, and the Bucket O' Soldiers (which is easily confused with the less accurate, non-C.O.A. version also available right now). As I understand it, Potato Head and Hamm are scheduled to come out VERY soon, and Jessie after that. Hopefully, we'll see Bullseye, Mrs. Potato Head, and Slinky Dog later down the road. And, dare I hope, Bo Peep, Stinky Pete, and Zurg?

Buzz Lightyear Ultimate Talking Action Figure Review

Buzz Lightyear Ultimate Talking Action Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 2 year old son loves the movie Toy Story. His friend had the Buzz Lightyear toy and when he was at his house that's all he played with. He would even ask to go to his house to play w/ Buzz Lightyear. So we bought the toy. He did not put this toy down for at least a week! He ran around the house saying, "Buzz Lightyear flies!" The action figure does a variety of movements. The only annoying thing is that the wings are constantly falling off & I have to constantly put them back on. I believe the box says this is so they won't break, but I don't see what would have been the harm for them to be permantly fixed on. Oh well, hopefully they won't get lost. I also wonder why the toy doesn't say, "To infinity and beyond!" That being said, this is a very fun toy and I highly recommend it for your Buzz Lightyear fan.

Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow 18" Action Figure Review

Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow 18 Action Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this toy on Dec 30, and was pleasantly surprised. I took it out of the box, and was happy that the detailing looks just like Johnny Depp. The arms and hands articulate to some degree. As far as putting his cutlass in his right hand, (good luck with that!) because it's next to impossible to do so. So I just put his cutlass in his scabbard, as it was in the box. Part if his belt also broke off, which means that there are some flimsy pieces of plastic on this action figure.
As far as his voice goes, he sounds more like Ringo Starr of the Beatles than he does Johnny Depp. (Not to offend Ringo, the Beatles, or Beatle fans) I don't know why the voice chip couldn't have been snippets from the POTC movies with Johnny's voice. Maybe there were copyright issues, I don't know. I do know this. I have a good friend who can imitate Captain Jack's voice better than the one on this action figure!
Lastly, this action figure is really not a toy per say. I took this one out of the box, so that I could look at it better, and listen to the voice. I have another Captain Jack 18 inch figure in the box. I would buy it just for collector purposes. If you're going to buy an action figure for your child, buy one of the smaller ones, like the 12 inch action figure, or 9 inch. You really can't play with this big guy. But if you want to display him (either in or out of the box), then that's fine too.

Fisher Price Toots the Train 74878 Review

Fisher Price Toots the Train 74878
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3 1/2 year old son saved his money for this. I thought he was at a good age to start the whole process of learning to count and save money for something he really wanted.
Anyway, we got Toots a few weeks ago. He has loved it. It was easy to put together. It has helped him talk a little more ( Speech delay)because it responds to anything you say.
But as a mom, I have problems with it. Toots (the sensor) doesn't respond right when he runs into something (hay, cow, or pig). He is suppose to stop and say "Something is in the way", but he just pushes it around the track until it either falls off or you take it off the track.
Another problem we have had is that the caboose keeps coming unhooked. We usually end up taking it off and and only playing with Toots and the car.
The last thing we have had a problem with is that the lever on the tunnel that you are suppose to push to release the balls does not work. I have to push the balls with my finger. And even if it did Toots doesn't stop in the right position for them to roll down into the car. He is a little too far ahead.
Overall, he is a great toy but am disappointed with the problems we have had for the price we paid for him. My son loves him and there is no way I could return him even with his problems. I have e-mailed Fisher price after reading the other review on their good customer service and am waiting for a reply.

Toots even opens and closes his eyesand moves his mouth. Budding conductors will love deciding ondestinations for the train: the station, farm, tunnel, or loader. My Own Learning Leap Review

My Own Learning Leap
Average Reviews:

I recently bought My Own Learning Leap for my son's second birthday and of course I had to "test" it. He's amazing, he sings, asks questions, giggles when you touch just about anywhere. The only bad thing is, good luck making your voice sound like Leap. It will be your voice saying your childs name and your name. I doubt my son will notice though, and after my husband and I played with Leap for about 20 minutes (without hearing the same phrase or song twice) we agreed to go out and buy a second one for my son's twin sister. This is bound to be a toy that neither will give up. FYI, he is completely erasable if you want to change the info you've given him.

This is a cool toy. snap on the crossbow thing and you are ready to fire it. It only comes with four darts, but you can also use darts from regular nerf guns and put them in the ammo clip. It is like a bolt-action rifle, so you have to reload after every shot, but after a while you can become good enough to reload it quickly. It also has a sniper scope, so you can pinpoint the target. All-in-all, a very cool thing to have.

PowerMax Ultimate Robotic Vehicle Review

PowerMax Ultimate Robotic Vehicle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We just gave this toy to my son for his bday last night and he loves it. "URV" is very fun. The robot holds figures and is controlled by an easy remote control. It lights up and speaks with the voice tech characters. It is a bit heavy at 14 lbs and kids 3 and under might need help holding it. I predict this toy will be one of the hottest holiday toys so buy it early. It seems sturdy. It has a couple of negative features. The first is that it requires 7 batteries, 4 c's and 3 AAA's. That could get pricey. I also wish the remote was cordless for ease of use. It also took me a while to figure out how to use the power max tools with it. But that is the only feature that gave us problems. If your kids love rescue heroes they will definately want this toy. I can already see that it will be my son's favorite rescue toy. He loves all the special features, he was amazed when it scanned and revealed the voice tech figures idenity. He can't wait to get home from school and use it with all his Rescue Hero Toys. I know it is a bit expensive but it is well made and worth the price.

Elmo Knows Your Name Review

Elmo Knows Your Name
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my daughter for her first birthday, even though it is recommended for 2. Generally, she loves it - hugs it, smiles everytime she sees it and loves that it talks to her. Personally, I think there are some things that need to be worked on. To understand, you should know that Elmo speaks by either squeezing a button in his hand or hugging him and pressing a button on the speaker in his tummy.
1. The sound comes from a speaker that is held in Elmo's tummy. This is where you plug the cord for the PC in. However, with the padding that surrounds this, it is extremely difficult to get the speaker in Elmo's tummy and get the velcro completely closed. Generally, we never get the velcro completely closed, and hide the part where we can't under Elmo's shirt. And since the speaker is where the on/off button is, I am frequently having to struggle to reclose the velcro.
2. Everytime the button on the speaker or hand is pushed, Elmo starts a different "activity". So when my daughter gets over excited and hugs the stuffing out of him, it sound like he has some syndrome - he spurts out a word or two before the "track" changes so it doesn't make any sense. It would be far more productive if a track would finish before a new one would start.
3. The button on the hand is difficult to find and push for an adult, so for little hands, it can be quite difficult. And since Elmo actually says, "Let's play! Squeeze Elmo's hand,", it is what a child will learn should make him talk. Hugging Elmo is the only way my daughter can make him talk, although she tries really hard to squeeze his hand.
4. There are supposed to be 100+ sayings/songs/stories, but if I have heard more than 25, I'd be surprised. Many of them require multiple squeezes to get through the whole activity, so it gets lost on my little one, but would be more enjoyable for an older child.
5. You can choose to set an internal clock that will have Elmo play specific things at specific times, such as wake-up, bedtime, meals, etc. It only works if your child is on a schedule. The only thing I have set is bedtime.
6. At bedtime, Elmo sings a really darling bedtime song that my daughter loves, and she knows means it's night-night time. But if she hugs him too hard, it switches to something else, and she gets the saddest look on her face. Plus, if he is activated after bedtime, he goes back to "Let's Play!" which completely defeats the purpose. The unit should be set-up so that between bedtime and wake-up it doesn't play at all, or only plays the soothing bedtime song.
7. As an adult, I don't like that the software downloads EVERY name in the database onto your PC. Really, I would much rather it interactively let me install the names I want or to just download the ones I want. It took 15-20 minutes to download all of the names, so I know it is taking up a lot of room on my PC, which is frustrating.
8. I actually had to return the one I bought from Amazon. It had clearly been returned to Amazon without the install CD and I had to run out and purchase a new one the morning of my daughters birthday. So purchase early and download early, just in case.
On the plus side:
1. The software installed without a hitch and downloaded to Elmo easily. I have Windows XP Professional.
2. He looks and sounds like he does on TV.
3. There is an opening in the back of the box that allows you to get to the CD and download it to Elmo without taking him out of the box, which is nice if you are giving it as a gift.
4. My daughter loves him!

This is a GREAT toy. The Rescue Hero toys are the best I've seen in a long time. As a mother of five I've seen a lot of toys over the last 20 years, (my youngest is four) These toys are really worthwhile and encourage postive values and real heroism unlike many toys on the market today. To the reviewer whose son was not yet three, your son is still a little young. When kids are about three and a half they really start playing with them, for hours actually. My sons rescue heroes have had numerous long adventures in the bathtub as well (as long as they have no electronic devices) These rescue hero toys are on the top of my list for preschoolers.

FurReal Friends Go Go My Walkin' Pup

(More customer reviews)
I had purchased this toy for my daughter for Christmas, but after reading (and trusting) the reviews I decided to let her play with it now so I had time to get her something else if this wasn't a good toy. Turns out the reviews are right. My daughter had to repeatedly call the dog, only to have it move two feet, turn its head and bark at her. She got bored with it after twenty minutes. The dog isn't useful as a "stuffed" animal either. It's just a machine with fur over it so it's not something she'd cozy up with. The fur was sliding around on it too. Not a good toy and not worth the price. I returned it the next day and my daughter hasn't asked about it since.

My son is always on the go. He has had the Rescue Hero Figures since he was two and had played with them for hours! He received the Command Center for this third birthday and plays with it every day! With so much technology today I love to listen to his postive, creative play. I will hear him playing "Calling all Rescue Heroes" "Rescue Heroes save the day" It is so nice to see a postive role play with so much violence going on around us. Although it does need some room to be able to access all sides, it has withstood hard play. Among other things, it's been knocked over in a storm, flooded by a volcano and caught on fire and still stands! Even my six year old daughter and her friends will ask to play with him! All the kids love the recordable message feature. Ours is never the same from day to day! I would recommend this center and all Rescue Heroes acessories to anyone promoting creative play!
